Oceania Championships and Beyond

UPDATE 26/12/2020: Read News Update – Oceania Championships All Happening

After the succcess of the multi-venue Pacific invitational run simultaneously across seven locations in July, World Powerlifting is moving on with more major events for 2020 to 2021. We all remain subject to travel and health regulations, so there has been some re-scheduling.

Firstly, the open Oceania Championships will now move to Cambridge, New Zealand from January 29 to 31.

This will unite the open event with the Oceania Junior & Masters Championships which remain as set, also in Cambridge January 29-31.

The big change re January is that the World Juniors/Masters will now move to go with the open World Championships, to be held later in 2021. This as travel restrictions would surely have made the New Zealand location a challenge for athletes from beyond the Pacific zone. Should even regional travel be difficult as of January, World Powerlifting and the Oceania Powerlifting Federation remain ready with an alternative multi-venue plan for the Oceanias.

However January 29-31 remains the confirmed date for the event and we aim to confirm the format by mid November.

Then from March 21 to 23 FIBO China is happening, once again in Shanghai. This will now include the China Championships and will surely again be the massive event it has been in past years.

The World Championships, now all age groups combined, remains listed for May 2021. This is an aspirational date and World Powerlifting will advise on a confirmed dates and location asap.

In the meantime nations and regions are re-activating and many National Championships are scheduled for late 2020 to early 2021. Note that by special ruling of the WP Technical Committee, for the period to end March 2021 World Records can be set at National Championships, subject to all Technical Rules being met.

There will be more to come from World Powerlifting in 2021. Keep watching worldpowerlifitng.com and our media for more  news.
